About the event
Join Heritage Chilliwack for Uncovering Chinatown, a special Culture Days event celebrating Chilliwack’s Chinese-Canadian history and the stories behind the city’s historic Chinatown.
The day will begin at 11:00 a.m. near Paramount Alley, adjacent to District 1881, with the official recognition of Heritage Chilliwack’s four new Chinatown Heritage Plaques. Installed on or near the sites of former Chinese-Canadian-owned businesses, the plaques focus on the area historically known as Chinatown North and are the result of approximately three years of research and planning.
Opening remarks will include Heritage Chilliwack, invited community representatives, Mayor Ken Popove, Councillor Jason Lum, and representatives from the Chilliwack Foundation, whose grant support helped make the plaque project possible.
Following the opening, visitors are invited to continue to Central Community Park, which will serve as the event hub for the rest of the day.
